i'll give an answer to that one - it's a resounding YES. both songs are in the same key signature and even the same mode, A mixolydian! They are rhythmic cousins as well, but straightforward 4/4 pieces with distinctive (and similar) rhythmic motifs.

The dark star "theme" plays with A major and G major chords, while the wharf rat "theme" plays with A major and E minor chords. G major and E minor are almost the exact same chord except for one note:

G: G - B - D
E: E - G - B

there you go. i wonder if stratocaster has any elaboration to contribute?
